Wyke Primary School

Headteacher's Welcome

On behalf of our children, staff, and Local Governance Committee, I would like to warmly welcome you to Wyke Primary School’s website. I hope you find the information here both useful and informative, and that it offers you a sense of what makes our school such a special place. However, the best way to truly understand what we’re about is to come and visit us—look around, meet our staff, and experience the warmth and enthusiasm of our wonderful children.
We are proud to be part of the Pickwick Academy Trust, a family of schools committed to providing high-quality education and strong collaboration across communities. Located in Gillingham, North Dorset, Wyke Primary is an inclusive school with a strong sense of belonging and a dedicated, caring team.
At Wyke, every child is known, valued, and supported. We work hard to recognise and nurture each child’s unique strengths and talents so they can flourish. We are proud to offer a safe, welcoming, and stimulating environment where children feel confident, inspired, and challenged to be their very best.
Our curriculum is brought to life through Curious City, an exciting enquiry-led approach that places curiosity, creativity, and real-world learning at the heart of every topic. Through this model, we aim to develop enquiring minds, a thirst for knowledge, high aspirations, resilience, and a strong respect for others. Learning at Wyke is fun, purposeful, and full of challenge.
Everything we do at Wyke is underpinned by our school values: Respect, Kindness, Resilience, Friendship, Trust, and Responsibility. These values guide the way we learn, play, and work together, helping our children to grow not just academically, but personally and socially too.
Our aim is for every child to leave Wyke as a confident, adaptable, and compassionate individual, equipped with the skills, character, and mindset needed to thrive in an ever-changing world. Our Positive Relationships and Behaviour Policy supports this by fostering a culture of respect, consistency, and emotional safety, helping children feel seen, valued, and empowered in their learning and relationships.
We also recognise that education is most powerful when families and teachers work in genuine partnership. By building positive, trusting relationships with parents and carers, we create a shared sense of purpose—ensuring that every child takes pride in their learning, their personal growth, and the wider life of the school.
We look forward to working with you and your child, and to welcoming you into the Wyke community.

Kind regards,

Ed Birkett
