Remote Learning Resources
All children are currently in school – if your child has to isolate, or your child’s class is closed due to a confirmed case/s or a local/national coronavirus lockdown, many families will be caring for and educating their children at home.  This page contains information and advice for use during this time.
Microsoft Teams (or Tapestry in Wren Class) is the system we use at Wyke Primary to maintain contact with you during the time you are not in school. Children have their own logins – but just get in touch with the school office if you need any help with this.
You will need to check your Class Teams page daily for the activities set by your class teacher/s.
Supporting Children and Young People with worries about COVID-19
Covid can be a big worry for many of us – find below a link to some advice that may be helpful.
Online Safety
Inevitably, children and families will be spending more time online during the lockdown. Here you will find resources, which as parents and carers, you can use to get a better understanding of the issues and materials to support you child/children.
There is support available to keep your child safe online. Below are some useful links that may help:
- Think you know (advice from the National Crime Agency to stay safe online)
- Net-aware (support for parents and carers from the NSPCC)
- UK Safer Internet Centre (tips, advice, guides)
- Coronavirus (COVID-19): Closure of educational settings: guidance for parents and carers. A range of information, including support to help keep children safe online.

Routine – Establish a Daily Schedule
Although it may be the easiest option, allowing your children unrestricted gaming and use of the internet is not the best move; in fact, it is an incredibly bad one as you will be fostering a mindset fixed wholly around lethargy and leisure. Moreover, by encouraging a sedentary lifestyle you are getting your child to adopt seriously life-debilitating attitudes for the future, with associated health-risks and limited life-choices. So, please ensure that the game console, etc. are strictly rationed!
Next – establish a plan which works for you and your family. Here’s a suggestion:
8.00am Breakfast
8.30am Chores (set up a rota for your child to be involved with household maintenance)
9.00am Have an exercise routine to start the day. Click here to try some Joe Wicks routines.
9.30am Individual reading – linked with Accelerated Reader.
10.00am Maths – activities will be set by school as well as Time Table Rockstars and BBC Learning or Oak National Academy
11.00am Have a break!
11.30am English – activities will be sent by school.
12.30am Lunch
1.30pm Arts and crafts or do some Topic Work – ideas below!
2.30pm Collective Worship – This website has some great assemblies about some really interesting topics and will be a great opener for conversation. Primary Assemblies.
3.00pm End the school day by thinking about others. Maybe you could encourage your child to contact someone who would love to hear from them, perhaps an elderly relative, a neighbour in need or an absent. A letter, note or phone call can make such a difference to someone!
3.45pm – Family time, including limited gaming/social internet use (keep bedtime at its usual time for a school day and not the same as adults – you need time away from the children too).
There may well be resistance to this schedule from some children – patience and endurance will get you there and help establish good routines for life in your child.
Arts, Culture and Virtual Visits
Life during lockdown or isolation prevents us being out and about. While such trips are not possible in the real world, the virtual world is a different story.
If you click on the following link you can have a virtual tour to somewhere very exciting – from art galleries to museums, from zoos to concert halls… have fun!
