Friends of the School

Hello! Â We would like to introduce ourselves; we are the Friends of Wyke Primary School Association (sometimes known as the PTA) and we hope the following will give you a better understanding of what we do for the school.
Who are we?
The Friends of Wyke is a registered charity and is comprised of a group of parents and school staff who help raise funds for the school, and like most voluntary groups it is organised though meetings of the committee members.
What do we do?
The Friends Association organises a number of fundraising events each year. If you look around the school you will be able to see many items which the Friends have funded such as playground equipment, sports kit, musical instruments, IT equipment, books, as well as regularly subsidising school trips and much, much more!
How can I get involved?
Email us on friends@gillinghamwyke.dorset.sch.uk or just come along to our meetings. The committee meets several times a year.  Additionally we have a ‘helpers list’ of volunteers who help out at school events once or twice a year. If you are interested and would like be a committee member, join our ‘helpers list’ or just have a question, please email us on friends@gillinghamwyke.dorset.sch.uk or let the School Office know.
What skills do I need?
If you are enthusiastic and enjoy working as part of a team we will be delighted to see you.
Will it take up a lot of time?
The amount of time you commit to helping the school varies from person to person.  Meetings usually last about 1½ hours.  There are often small jobs to do between meetings especially before our two major fundraising events (the Christmas Bazaar and the Summer Fête) and then help is required during the events we organise.  Many of our current and past members have stayed on the committee for a number of years.
How long do I have to stay on the Committee?
You are free to leave the Association at any time you wish, although the Chair, Treasurer and Secretary are appointed for one year.
What is the ‘helpers list’?
We keep a list of parents and grandparents, etc. who only have a few hours to spare each year to support us at our busiest events. Â This help is absolutely vital and so if you are interested please let the School Office know.
Thank you for your support!
