At Wyke Primary School we are committed to the equal inclusion of all pupils in all areas of primary school life. Every child deserves a broad, knowledge-rich and balanced education. We have an inclusive culture in our school and we are responsive to the diversity of children’s backgrounds, interests, experience, knowledge and skills. We recognise the diverse and individual needs of all our pupils and consider the additional support required by those children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Every member of staff is committed to our inclusive ethos and philosophy. We cater for all abilities through responsive quality first teaching. We are committed to early recognition and intervention, and ensure additional support is balanced between group and individual intervention, alongside quality first teaching. We aim to work in partnership with children’s families and to keep the child’s needs at the centre of everything we do.

Mrs Laura Beales is our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENDCo) at Wyke. She is responsible for leading and managing the day-to-day operation of the school’s special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) policy, and coordinating extra help for primary school pupils who need additional support to learn and thrive. 

We operate an open-door policy at Wyke and your child's teacher should always be the first person you speak to if you have concerns about your child's progress, development or learning. Your child's teacher knows them best in the school setting and can talk to you about strengths, needs, progress and any support they may already be receiving. If further support or advice is needed, the class teacher can then work with you and the SENDCO to identify next steps and ensure your child receives appropriate support. We encourage parents and carers to share any concerns with us as early as possible so that we can work together to support your child.
